Junior year of high school I established ESL, teaching English to the Latinx community every Sunday. Taking complete responsibility for the organization, I organized transportation, recruited students, created the curriculum, and taught classes. As I explored my own abilities as a teacher, I became a keystone piece for my classmates, teaching them how to lead classes and approach each student individually, which became crucial as our student groups expanded from three to over twenty members. Consequently, I acquired organizational habits and learned how to respond to adversity. Sometimes, the night before the class my friends told me that they were unable to help due to personal reasons. Left alone, I would combine the groups and teach both classes at the same time to accommodate my peers. I believe that to maintain sound relationships within the team, the leader requires not only firmness of the boss, but also the empathy of a brother.
