This past summer I spent 3 weeks (June 17th-29th and August 5th-10th) training, shadowing, learning and experiencing hands on what it takes to be a camp counselor. From this I have realized that a lot more patience and work goes into it than fun and games. Each child comes from a different backstory, has different personalities and different ways of handling situations. I have learned so much about simply listening, understanding and helping the kids be their full selves and embrace the judgement free zone the camp is. I am incredibly grateful to have been able to volunteer at camp Nan O Bo Sho and cannot wait to hopefully go back as a counselor next summer.
