Did you know female enrollment in higher education has tripled globally<\/a> between 1995 and 2018? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While this is promising news, equal access to education has not led to an equal outcome in leadership and academic positions. This includes a major under-representation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, this does not come as a surprise given the alarming pay disparity<\/a> between men and women. In fact, U.S. women in full-time positions are paid as little as 80 cents to every dollar earned by their male counterparts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the surmounting interest in gender equality in education, little attention has been given to the high school and college students as a potential point for intervention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a 2020 Australian report<\/a>, gender inequalities begin in high school and turn bright, young girls into anxious young women who have already experienced being treated differently than their male peers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this day and age, gender equality in high school\u00a0and college must become part of a student’s daily life.\u00a0Learn more about how students can promote gender equality in education.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
