Naomi Benstowe's post on Goodwall - #selfimprovement #selfimprovementchallenge After reading about the history of Africa. I decided to write a book, Titled; "Zanzibar". Zanzibar and it's sister Pemba are parts of the Republic Of Tanzania. Zanzibar is a corruption of the Persian term Zanjibar( Zanji= black, bar=coast) which means 'Land of the blacks'. It is not known when the island got this name, but Persians first came to Zanzibar in the 16th century A.D. And the indigenes of Zanzibar call their Island "Unguja". With the latitude of 5 and 6 south. It's the largest and most important Island lying off the East African Coast. It's total area is estimated at 400,000acres. It is 43kilometers wide and 80kilometers long. Fact; Zanzibar has two rainy seasons in the year. The first known as the "greater rains" or Mazika comes in April and May. The second, known as the "lesser rains or Muli lasts from October to November or December.
