Evan Millard's post on Goodwall - The United Nations sustainable development goal target 6.2 requires that adequate sanitation is provided for all by 2030. However, due to COVID-19, valuable time has been lost in achieving that goal, especially as according to the World Bank approximately 1.4 billion people are still practising open defaecation and a further 4.1 billion people are estimated to not have access to sanitation facilities that treat human organic waste. As such, we wish to promote container based sanitation (CBS) as a low cost and environmentally friendly solution to the world’s sanitation needs in the post-pandemic world. The system features a urine diverting toilet sat above a container that captures faeces and contains dry cover materials to prevent odors. Our organization will transport the containers to a central treatment facility where the excrement is either disposed of or used as a feed-stock in the production of fertilizer, biogas, chemicals or energy. #o17summer2020 #challenge3 #cbs #sanitation #unitednations #energy #sustainability
